All of the fees collected go to a IRS registered nonprofit, FORSYTH AREA SPORTS TEAMS, INC. We refer to it as FAST.
$2 Website Donation - Limits bogus profiles, join-aholics, couch potatoes and more importantly, people who are not serious about helping veterans and challenged adults find employment. You will be listed as a passenger and will get access to http://meetup.com/nicepirates but not the volunteer and training section of nicepirates.com. You are welcome to join us as a passenger locally or in the tropics.
$40 Sailing Donation, Lesson #1 - Everyone who learns, sails or volunteers on the water, must complete the following practical sailing lesson. This donation covers that lesson. This donation also gives you access to http://meetup.com/nicepirates and all of http://nicepirates.com, including logging time for your USCG license or officer application for the USCG. Volunteers seeking only administrative or land based hours can substitute 12 hours of administrative time for this lesson but must still donate $40.
Lesson #1
Your first sailing or volunteer session will consist of raising the mast on a 21' sailboat, then backing the sailboat down a ramp and then into the water. You will launch it, dock it, then remove the trailer from the water and park it. You will then motor the boat for 5 minutes, dock it and then take the boat out of the water. You will take the mast down and secure the boat on the trailer for towing. You will do this 3 times on your first day as a student or volunteer. This is your first sailing lesson, and all sailors or volunteers will complete this training.
Training Rates For Basic, Advanced, Coastal and Bareboat (3 days each)
Instruction is $20/hour ($100 day, max $300) when taught by "volunteers in training".
Instruction is $25/hour ($150 day, max $450) when taught by certified instructors.
Instruction is $35/hour ($200 day, max $600) when taught by USCG officers.
Instruction is $1/hour for volunteers with a volunteer exchange of hours.
You can have up to 2 addittional sailing days to complete your training. Volunteer instructors are used for additional days. You are asked to make a donation of at least $10/hour during each of your additional days unless you are a volunteer then it is $1/hr with an exchange of hours.
Volunteer Initiation
When you complete the volunteer initiation you can exchange 4 hours of volunteer time for one hour of instruction to get the volunteer rate.
We need to find and train dedicated sailing instructors and crew to assist with challenged adults operating this facility. Volunteers should have a goal of becoming sailing, scuba, safety or sports crew, instructors or USCG Captains. Volunteers will be expected to complete 24 hours of manual labor including, cleaning, sanding, waxing and any other duty that needs to be accomplished. We will try and find at least 4 hours of the dirtiest, nastiest job we have as part of your 24 hour volunteer initiation. You will be required to teach or supervise almost immediatly.
Your volunteer bank needs a minimum balance of 8 hours to remain in it and all exchanges must be for volunteer work accomplished not promised. Everytime you use hours in your bank, you are asked to make a donation of at least $1 for every hour used.
Your 3 day basic sailing course would cost volunteers the following:
$40 Lesson #1, $24 for the 24 hours of instruction. = $60
24 hours of initiation, 8 hours for your bank, 96 hours to trade = 128 hours
When you have finished your 24 hours of initiation you can learn for $10/hr instead of using volunteer hours and in any combination of hours and donations.
If you refer somebody for training you get an expense credit of %15 of whatever money or hours that person contributes. Volunteers are never paid cash, but they can have training or expenses covered with their credits.
Volunteers who have passed the Basic sailing course can use sailboats under 26' for $1/hour and a trade of 1 hour, or $10/hour without a volunteer trade.
